New Picture Notification

Hello,
I was wondering if its possible to have something appear to notify users that there are new photos in the gallery.
On my forum i currently have underneath the welcome 'username' at the top "number of unread posts".
I was hoping to do something similar if a user upload photos.

i hope i am making sense.

Do you mean this (example):
19 new images (like unreaded messages)
or "mark all media as readed" :)

And ... what kind of images do you mean ?
Images in the album, thread or anywhere

yes that example is good.
yes just new images users have added to the gallery. i mean ive found that when a new album is created and one person uploads some, once you look at those pictures you dont really think to check back again for new pictures?
if it is too much hassle dont worry about it, i just thought it would be a usefull mod
